Joe Black, a long-standing member of the Salem business community, is receiving support through a blood drive in his honor as he battles Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS), a rare form of blood cancer. Joe has been actively involved with organizations such as the Salem Lions, Shriners, and Masons for over 50 years. The upcoming blood drive aims to replenish the blood and platelets he has used while also assisting others in similar situations.

The Salem Elks, Salem Lions Club, Salem Shriners, the Masons, and Joe's family are encouraging participation in this effort. The American Red Cross Blood Drive is scheduled for Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Salem Community Activities Center.

In October, a previous drive collected 77 units of blood with contributions from 16 first-time donors. Donors at the upcoming event will be provided food by Salem Township Hospital and entered into a drawing for a $100 gift card from the Salem Elks Lodge.

Appointments can be made by visiting redcrossblood.org using the keyword "SalemActivities" or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
