FOIA Request to Fayette County Il Clerk Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Central Reporter have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) for records pertaining to the upcoming elections.
The requested information includes a list of all candidates running in the forthcoming election. The specifics sought are the first, middle, and last names of the candidates; the office they are vying for; jurisdiction of the office; and their party affiliation.
In addition to these details, we have also asked for all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities as journalists. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
