Salem Township Hospital is introducing a new Diabetes Support and Nutrition Education Group, led by registered dietitian and nutritionist Caroline Boehne. The group will convene monthly at the hospital, offering free participation to individuals of all ages.

Caroline Boehne shared her personal connection to diabetes care: "I am passionate about diabetes care as I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of nine. Growing up and throughout college, I was actively involved in sports and lived a very active lifestyle, which often made blood sugar management a constant challenge. Those experiences taught me how profoundly lifestyle and external factors can impact diabetes care."

Boehne aims to provide both clinical nutritional advice and support from someone who has experienced similar challenges. She noted that many people, particularly in rural areas, lack access to peers who understand living with diabetes daily.

The sessions will include nutrition tips, opportunities for questions, and community support for those managing diabetes. Participants are encouraged to bring topic ideas to the first meeting.

Interested individuals can join the mailing list for updates by signing up online or calling 618-740-1688.
