Self-proclaimed political outsider Seth McMillan was among those who recently turned out to hear President Donald Trump deliver a speech marking the reopening of the Granite City U.S. Steel plant.

“Celebrating the reopening with Steve McClure, Rep. Rodney Davis, Kevin Polo and Donald J. Trump,” McMillan said in a photo caption posted to Facebook.

In another post, McMillan, running against incumbent Sen. Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) in the 48th Senate District, remained focused on the district, posting “supporting the future of agriculture is one of the ways I give back to my community. My wife and I bought the reserve champion barrow at the Christian County 4H auction last night.”

A small business owner, McMillan has focused on a campaign message of lowering taxes and being willing to give back as much as 50 percent of his government salary.

The 48th Senate District includes parts of Central Illinois, Springfield, Decatur, Christian County, Madison County and Montgomery County.
