Bunker Hill Community Unit School District 8 students suspended 43 times in a single school year

Bunker Hill Community Unit School District 8 reported 43 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 43 students during the year. That equates to 7.1 percent of the 605 students enrolled.

Of the 25 in-school suspensions, including 13 elementary or middle schoolers and 12 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 20 incidents. There were three incidents of violence without physical injury. For 21 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes 12 incidents. There were five incidents of unspecified reasons. For 14 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
