Sandoval Community Unit School District 501 students suspended 88 times in a single school year

Sandoval Community Unit School District 501 reported 88 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 88 students during the year. That equates to 18.2 percent of the 483 students enrolled.

Of the 62 in-school suspensions, 43 were given to boys and 19 were given to girls, including 23 elementary or middle schoolers and 39 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 60 incidents. There were two incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 59 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 26 out-of-school suspensions, including 15 elementary or middle schoolers and 11 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 24 incidents. There were two incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 16 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
