Jonesboro State House candidate Marsha Griffin received $35,822 from Illinois House Speaker and Democrat Party Chief Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) between Aug. 15 and Sept. 6, state filings show.
The Madigan funding was disclosed in reports filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE) by Friends of Marsha Griffin, the campaign committee that supports Griffin’s race against Republican Terri Bryant in the 115th district.
This district covers all or part of Anna, Ashley, Ava, Carbondale, Centralia, Du Quoin, Grand Tower, Jonesboro, Mount Vernon, Murphysboro, Nashville, Nason, and Pinckneyville
Madigan’s contributions to Griffin came from the campaign funds he controls, including his own committee, Friends of Michael J. Madigan, the Illinois Democratic Party and the Democratic County Chairman’s Association of Illinois. In all, Madigan has contributed $35,822 to the candidate’s campaign.
From Aug. 15 to Sept. 6, Madigan spent $2.67 million backing campaigns for 31 candidates. He's spent more than $100,000 on 12 candidates and more than $40,000 on 18.
