Seth McMillan, the Illinois Senate candidate for District 48, has challenged his opponent, Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill), to five public or broadcast debates ahead of the November election.
“I'm willing to publicly debate my record and positions, and voters deserve the same from Sen. Manar,” McMillan wrote on Facebook.
The proposed debates would either be live before an audience or in a live broadcast, according to a press release on McMillan's website. The dates, venues and moderators have yet to be determined.

“The people of the 48th District don’t want to hear talking points or fancy television commercials, they want and deserve a chance to hear exactly what their candidates believe on critical issues facing our state,” McMillan said in the press release. “This isn’t political grandstanding. This is an honest request of Andy Manar to put his record up for scrutiny, and I’m certainly ready to put mine up for debate, too.”
McMillan bills himself as an “outsider” candidate, focusing on business reforms that support job growth, as well as “controlled spending in Springfield,” according to the press release.
The 48th state Senate District includes Christian, Macon, Macoupin, Madison, Montgomery and Sangamon counties.
