State Rep. Blaine Wilhour, R-Beecher City, told his constituents to blame Democratic lawmakers for the high cost of groceries and fuel.
Wilhour wrote a Facebook post on Wednesday that blamed Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker, President Joe Biden and other Democrats for contributing to the nation's record inflation.
"Inflation is a TAX INCREASE-especially on working class folks," Wilhour said in the post. "This is brought to you by policies from JB Pritzker, Joe Biden, and the Democrat party."
According to election results shared by the Star Journal, Wilhour ran unopposed for the Republican nomination to represent District 110 in the June election.
In the days leading up to the primary, the South Central Reporter said Wilhour endorsed state Sen. Darren Bailey, who won the GOP's nomination with 57% of the vote for Illinois' gubernatorial race.
In early June, Wilhour praised parents who have spoken out against topics that they do not want to be taught to their children. According to the East Central Reporter, he encouraged people who are unhappy with lawmakers to have their voices heard by voting in the primary.
