Join the Counseling and Career Development Center for Mental Health Awareness week events. This year’s theme is “What I Wish I Had Known – The Power of the Lived Experience”.

Brain and Body: Movement’s Critical Role in Destressing and Mental Health

A partnership with FitRec

Monday, Oct. 3, 1:30 p.m. | Building H, FitRec, Studio C

Wear comfortable clothes, join us and participate in this active session where we will get our bodies moving while learning how to destress. Come and learn how we can recognize stress through our bodily cues and how to make the shift in our bodies to reduce the stress.

Taking Care of U Day

Join us in the U as we partner with Student Life and PTK to learn about self-care and destressing

Wednesday, Oct. 5, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. | Building U

Feeling stressed? You probably are, given that the average student is balancing school along with many other responsibilities. On this day, come and take care of you and join us in the U to learn about and practice ways you can practice self-care and destress. We will have activities such as chair yoga, the making of self-care kits, as well as workshops on self-care and healthy eating just to name a few.

Let’s Talk About Mental Health

Students’ Questions on Managing and Responding to Mental Health Challenges – Panel Discussion

Thursday, Oct. 6, 1 p.m. | Building U, Room 111

Mental health challenges are not easy to live with, yet many people around us do it on a daily basis. Join us for this discussion featuring students and counselors to explore living, coping and thriving with mental health challenges. During this discussion, have an opportunity to ask questions and to hear different stories and lived experiences.

The Neurodiversity Paradigm: Challenges, Gifts, and Overlaps with Mental Health

Friday, Oct. 10, 10 a.m. | Building G, Room 110A

Do you know someone with sensory processing sensitivity, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, or another form of neurodiversity? Research estimates that 15-20% of the population is neurodiverse, so the answer is probably YES! During this presentation, a counselor with lived experience will present on the overlap between the neurodiversity paradigm and supporting our own and others’ mental health.
