State Sen. Steve McClure (R-Chatham) took to Facebook recently to share the news of his new leadership role in the Republican Caucus in the statehouse.

In a news release on his website, McClure expressed his gratitude for the leadership role entrusted to him.

“It is a tremendous responsibility to be tasked with presenting the Republican perspective during debates in the chamber and an honor to be asked to serve in this important position by my colleagues,” McClure said in the news release.

McClure will serve as an Assistant Republican Leader to Senate Minority Leader John Curran (R-Downers Grove) who lauded his colleague for his work.

“Senator McClure is a bright and promising rising star in the Illinois Senate,” Curran said in the news release. “I have full confidence in his ability to serve as the voice of our caucus on important issues that we will take up in the Senate.”

According to his website, McClure was first elected to represent the 50th Senate district in 2019. After redistricting, he now represents the 54th District. He is a graduate of Arizona State University with bachelor’s degrees in history and political science. He received a master’s degree from the University of Illinois in Springfield and a law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in Indiana.
