Illinois state Sen. Steve McClure (R-Springfield) shared the results of his Valentine's Card Drive in a Feb. 14 Facebook post.
"Thanks to everyone who participated in our drive, we were able to deliver a massive amount of cards to seniors across the district," the senator said in the post. "Happy Valentine’s Day!"
In appreciation of McClure's actions, Heritage Health in Litchfield, Ill., made a social media post in his recognition.
"Special thank you to State Senator Steve McClure for hosting a 'Valentine's for Seniors Card Drive,'" the organization said on Facebook. "He realizes how long-term care facilities have been affected by this pandemic, so he wanted to let the seniors know they are cared for on this holiday and many people in the region are thinking of them."
McClure announced the Valentine's Day Card Drive on Jan. 23, a release on his website said. He also expressed his reasoning for specifically sharing this special time with the elderly.
“Living in a nursing home or assisted-living facility can be a lonely experience,” he said in the release. “We want to make sure that those seniors know that they are an important part of the community and are loved.”
McClure represents Illinois' 54th Senate District and is a longtime Springfield resident who joined the Illinois General Assembly in January 2019, his website biography said. He has worked as an assistant state’s attorney in the Sangamon County Juvenile Division and as a felony attorney in the Sangamon County Felony Division. In the latter role, he prosecuted drug dealers, burglars, gang members, violent criminals and perpetual thieves. McClure also focused on cases involving those attempting to take financial advantage of senior citizens.
