Blaine Wilhour, House Rep. of the Illinois House of Representatives, Illinois General Assembly, raised concerns about a deal with a Chinese company during a speech on Oct 2nd. Wilhour questioned why the state is giving $8 billion to a Chinese company for a plant that is estimated to cost $2 billion. He emphasized that the issue lies with the Chinese government, not the Chinese people.

Wilhour criticized the lack of transparency surrounding the deal, stating that it was done behind closed doors with no disclosures. He called for more transparency and accountability from the governor and the government regarding the use of taxpayer dollars.

The EV battery plant in question is set to open in Manteno, approximately 50 miles outside of Chicago, next year. The plant is expected to create 2,600 jobs, making it a significant investment for the state.

Governor JB Pritzker announced the project in a news release, highlighting the economic benefits it will bring to Illinois. He referred to it as the largest electric vehicle battery production investment in the state's history and praised Illinois as a leading destination for companies and investors.

Despite the governor's enthusiasm for the project, Wilhour's concerns about the deal with the Chinese company and the lack of transparency raise important questions about the use of taxpayer dollars and the potential risks involved. As a representative of the people, Wilhour's call for transparency and accountability is a reminder of the importance of government officials being held responsible for their actions.

It remains to be seen how these concerns will be addressed and whether any changes will be made to the deal with the Chinese company. However, Wilhour's remarks serve as a reminder that citizens have the power to voice their concerns and hold their government accountable.
