Rep. Avery Bourne (R-Litchfield) recently took to social media to criticize Gov. J.B. Pritzker and his administration in the wake of the COVID-related deaths of 36 veterans at the LaSalle Veterans Home.
"Our veterans and their families have sacrificed so much and deserved better treatment," Bourne said.
More than a dozen families who lost loved ones during the COVID pandemic at LaSalle have filed 27 individual wrongful death lawsuits against the State of Illinois, the Illinois Department of Veterans, and LaSalle Veterans Home, according to an ABC 7 report.
Pritzker blamed local leaders, claiming that “our communities, our mayors, our councils, our county boards and county chairs” were not following or implementing preventive actions, News Tribune reported.
Bourne, running for lieutenant governor on the same ticket s gubernatorial candidate Richard Irvin, has been at the receiving end of criticism as well, according to a Metro East Sun report.
"Irvin and Bourne are nothing more than Democrats who are disguising themselves as Republicans to further destroy Illinois," GOP activist Christopher Hicks claimed, according to Metro East Sun. Hicks also claimed that, "Bourne helped Madigan retain his power over the years and Bourne is part of indicted House Speaker Madigan's ‘Chinatown’ scheme in which Bourne sponsored a bill to sell surplus state property.
Hicks also alleged that Michael Kasper, Madigan's longstanding chief counsel, contributed to Bourne's campaign using his law firm.
"Do not be fooled by Irvin and Bourne," Hicks said
